Last weekend I actually had a week off cakes because I went to Montreal to teach a fabulous group of cakes decorators. I got to teach a fashion inspired cake class and share my couture cake skills. It really was a stellar class and you ladies really rocked out those couture cakes! To be honest when I first started teaching, I had a slight fear in the back of my head that I was giving away my skills and my cakes wouldn’t be in any way unique. However it’s not the skills that bring out a great cake design but the designer’s interpretation . Also the fact that I never repeat a design , pushes me to look ahead of what I’m going to create rather then get stuck on what I’ve already done. So now I find myself enjoying teaching and excited to see what the students come up with as they grow their cake skills. It’s quite refreshing to teach passionate beginners who remind me that I was there too eight years ago when cake became apart of what I love in life.
So here we have something a little sassy! I animal print painted cake with golden bead/gem work and soft sugar florals. I wanted to keep it girly but also sophisticated – which can be hard to do when doing animal print. I won’t lie I’ve been a little obsessed with cake stands . You can find this cake stand to buy online at My Sweet and Saucy Supply.
