Coral and Orange Chevron

Today we have dreamy peach and coral with chevron inspiration shoot designed by wedding planner and designer Crystal Adair-Benning of Distinct Occasions and photographed by the talented  Tyler James Photography. For the design of the cake I created a hand painted chevron cake with sparkly gumpaste flowers of shades of silver, coral, peach, and orange. I love how gorgeous this whole look came togather.

Gold Picture Frame Wedding Cake

I’d love to say it’s all smiles when designing one of a kind cakes but I can be very hard on myself sometimes when making a wedding cake. The artistic battle in my head is challenging me to create the best possible design that’s uniquely fit to the couple. Taking that dreamed up sketch of a concept that I haven’t done before and making it in a 3d decadent cake without missing one element can be a challenge but it’s so worth it when seeing the results. What I’ve found works best for me as a designer is being allowed the creative freedom to tweak the cake with the goal being to make it the ultimate wedding cake for the couple.

This cake had a few tweaks. The major one being I added the multi mini frames as the borders, thinking it would be cute for the talented photographer/bride. The sugar flowers inspired by the floral designs of Sweet Woodruff . I also felt the cake required an additional tier to best balance the decorative features of the flowers, crown topper and frame border so it went from three tiers  to four. I think my favorite part about this cake is the colors and seeing it fit perfectly with the decor of the wedding at Arcadian Court.

Grace’s White Wedding Cake -Featured in Wedluxe

Last year I designed a cake for Grace and Ryan’s Ritz Carlton wedding. Inspiration for the cake came from Grace’s Romona Keveza couture gown that had hundreds of fabric petals with crystals adorned on the dress. Hundreds of sugar petals and silver dragees were applied to create the look of the creme brulee flavored wedding cake.  This wedding is featured in the current issue of Wedluxe Magazine and you can see the rest of this gorgeous wedding online  here

A spoon full of sugar….

I’m so happy it’s wedding season at last! I’ve been planning with lovely 2012 couples on the cake designs and now it’s time to unveil the collection over the next few months. Last weekend I created a whimsical Mary Poppins themed cake for Racheal’s Banana Split  bridal shower. So I incorporated the pin stripes from the attire worn , umbrellas and of course  spoons full of sugar. Since this was an adult event I wanted the theme to come of subtle and not too novelty. Enjoy!

Water Color Birthday Cake

I love how water color is making a big impact on textiles in fashion right now. I couldn’t help but be inspired by it for this banana birthday cake adorned with sugar flowers. So cute!

Dubai Wedding Cake with Carousel Girls

Looking back to when I first started cake decorating, I would never have imagined or dreamed that I would be in demand to design cakes and teach  internationally. I still can’t process how my work have grown so much in popularity but I am so very grateful or it. In mid May I designed and created another sugary masterpiece for a wedding produced by the ridiculously talented Carousel Girls.  Leena and Zainab of Carousel Girls really know how to go above and beyond for their couples and I’m always excited to help execute their vision with the wedding cake.

This 11 tier cake with 4 double height tiers consisted of : 2 trips to Dubai (13 hour flight each way), over 400 sugar flowers, several grams of 24 K gold and over 65 pounds of fondant. Thank you to both Sweet Stuff and the pastry kitchen  at the Raffles Hotel for welcoming me into their kitchens to create the towering cake.

Sweet Regards – L

Purple Peony Wedding Cake and Cupcake Favours

Peonies are one of my favorite spring flowers and look gorgeous on wedding cakes and in this case cupcakes. Dragon and Samantha said their vows at the Old Mill in Toronto. For their cake we designed a five tier cake with traditional elements like piped lace and sugar flower topper with anemones and peonies. The beaded ivory belt matched the brides gowns. For wedding favors for the guests I designed these purple peony cupcakes. Congrats to Samantha and Dragon!
